That looks like what happens if the screen pixmap is flipped but we lose track.
The flash is probably we did a CRTC modeset (one of the attempts at error
recovery) rather than a flip.
Could I look at a debug Xorg.log when it freezes with the patch? First I want
to verify that the patch prevents the vblank queues from clogging and then see
if we are still hitting a pageflip error. Knowing that should direct the
barking to a different tree.</pre>
