Does your machine suspend/resume on lid close/open? In particular, I can't tell
if the lid open problem is that your machine doesn't resume or that your
machine resumes but display stays black until you hit a key or move mouse.

You mean that when the display comes back, it initially contains a stale image
back from when you last entered your password in the login screen?</pre>
