BTW, any ideas when the changes that you were pointing to will be merged into the kernell, if at all? Also, I didn't mention this before, but it might be relevant: in the xorg.conf, I explicitly set DRI to 3. This gets rid of the annoying tearing that I observe when for example I do some scrolling in firefox.
