Confirmed on
-- chipset: i915
-- system architecture: x86_64
-- xf86-video-intel: 2.99.917-15.1
-- xorg-x11-server: 7.6_1.17.2-24.2
-- mesa: 11.0.8-148.1
(however I can reliably reproduce lockups with steam games which use
a different verion I believe)
-- libdrm_intel1: 2.4.65-1.1
-- kernel: 4.1.31-30-default #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Aug 24 06:20:09 UTC 2016

-- Linux distribution: OpenSuSE Leap 42.1
Graphics lockups with steam games and graphics intensive web pages (ads) in
chromium showed first without the drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed [i915] kernel
warning. Now they do so (unreliably) I found this page and it all fits
perfectly. I will try to abstain from games and have disabled chrome hardware
acceleration, and if you hear nothing more from me that will have succeeded.
I can pretty reliably reproduce it and noticed it more probable with several
minutes uptime than immediately after boot.
