I'm about to reboot in v4.8.5 and can report success! No WARN_ON_ONCE was
triggered in over a day and a half of uptime. (The FIFO underrun error is still
there, so I'm positive it's a separate issue.)
This qualifies as a "Tested-by: Paul Bolle <<a href="mailto:pebolle@tiscali.nl">pebolle@tiscali.nl</a>>", I guess.
