I have the exact same problem as described with the graphics. When I switch from BIOS mode (default) on the computer to UEFI mode the graphics started to work as expected. I am now running Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS with kernel 4.8.0-36-generic. In case anyone would like to try figure out why the graphic is not working in BIOS mode I got the suggestion of providing /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_vbt for both modes so I did "cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_vbt > /tmp/i915_vbt-mode" and have attached tar.gz of those two files.
