I have also been fighting with this bug for a while.
Tried to update GPU driver using Intel Graphic Update Tool 2.02 and while LO
did not hang anymore my whole desktop had lots of issues.
I need to do more testing myself but wanted to point towards this potential
solution linked to issues with the HWE stack on 16.04. So far seems to work
both in terms of the LO hang and for my desktop:
