strong opinion on whether one or the other should be explicitly marked as a
duplicate.
Being KDE specific certainly sounds plausible to me - I've seen at least one
case (several years ago now) where KDE was hitting a crash bug in the driver
that Gnome (2, at the time) consistently avoided due to differences in how they
interacted with the driver.

state of the Spectre's Linux driver support here:
