Just to add to the confusion here, I am still seeing what looks like the
ordering problem, even though LPSS PWM driver is built-in (this is on Asus
T100HA):
steved@asus:~$ journalctl -b -1 | grep -i pwm
Apr 20 18:31:16 asus kernel: (null): Device [PWM1] is in always present list
Apr 20 18:31:43 asus kernel: [drm:pwm_setup_backlight [i915]] *ERROR* Failed to
own the pwm chip
steved@asus:~$ uname -a
Linux asus 4.16.3.0 #14 SMP Thu Apr 19 00:11:41 MST 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
GNU/Linux
steved@asus:~$ grep LPSS /boot/config-4.16.3.0 | grep -v MFD
CONFIG_X86_INTEL_LPSS=y
CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_LPSS=y
CONFIG_PWM_LPSS=y
CONFIG_PWM_LPSS_PCI=y
CONFIG_PWM_LPSS_PLATFORM=y
Have I misunderstood something?
