        <pre>Booting my Dell Inspiron with 'i915.fastboot=1' still results in flicker during
load, and more importantly, completely blank screen afterwards.

Perhaps similar to <a class="bz_bug_link 
          bz_status_NEEDINFO "
   title="NEEDINFO - [i915/HSW] fastboot causing blank screen and kernel lockup"
   href="show_bug.cgi?id=104838">bug 104838</a> but in my case the kernel *does not* lock up; I
can still blindly run commands. So here's dmesg output after booting into
emergency mode and running `modprobe i915`:
