As mentioned in <a href="show_bug.cgi?id=109215#c9">comment#9</a> I found my issue is actually better solved with
intel_idle.max_cstate=4.
I have saved the output of watermark with and without (during the black
screen/flickering), please see the latest attachments.
Tested with kernel 5.0.5-1-default from openSUSE.</pre>
