I am using a 965Q on a Dell Optiplex 775 with Dual 1920x1200 Dell 2407WFP monitors in a 3840 x 1200 arrangement.
I have achieved stability on this system using stock Fedora Core 8 with the attached xorg.conf.
glxgears works with about 1200 FPS. Compiz semi works on part of the desktop, but was too ugly to live.
I tried upgrading to the Fedora 9 packages (rebuilt on FC8) and built the latest versions:
libdrm 2.4.0
libpciaccess 0.9.1-4.10071031
mesa 7.1-0.16
xorg-x11-drv-i810 2.2.0-4
xorg-x11-server 1.4.99.1-0.23.20080222
With this configuration, X starts with the attached xorg.conf but glxgears causes a black box to appear on the screen and I get mtrr messages in my /var/log/messages:
Feb 26 15:45:03 localhost kernel: [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
Feb 26 15:45:03 localhost kernel: ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:02.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
Feb 26 15:45:03 localhost kernel: [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20060119 on minor 0
Feb 26 15:45:03 localhost kernel: mtrr: type mismatch for c0000000,10000000 old:
and the xorg.0.log.backup log file
When I rebuild to the released intel driver 2.2.1 X immediately hangs hard upon start giving the attached Xorg.0.log.b2 causing me to have to boot into single user mode to fix. This is a hard crash. All ssh sessions into the machine are dead and the power-off button has to be held down for the extended time to kill.
Any suggestions?
Is there a live-cd that one could boot to run a set of tests? If there was a weekly build, I'd be happy to boot it, and fill in a survey on the results. Right now it is very painful to test as it easily can blow an afternoon testing and then getting the system stable again.
Thanks!
Cry
