Ah sorry, I missed that.  Is there a bug filed for the problem?

It sounds like the backlight control methods on your platform are fighting... 
What does 'xrandr --prop' report?  How about 'ls /sys/class/backlight'?  Have 
you tried upgrading to 2.6.25-rc7?
