Looks like when I set Appearance->Fonts->Rendering to subpixel smoothing
(normally use best shapes), some fonts showed up, but still many failed
including  all chinese fonts. 

Test with drm-intel-next on 915G, and 2.6.30 on 945GM, no composite.
