Hello everyone,
I discovered that starting 3d games in wine hangs GPU with following
dmesg output:
> Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR*
Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
> Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render
ring head not reset to zero ctl 00000000 head 124140b4 tail 00000000
start 02000000
> Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render
ring head forced to zero ctl 00000000 head 124140b4 tail 00000000 start
02000000
> Nov 18 18:07:27 e4300 kernel: [drm:init_ring_common] *ERROR* render
ring initialization failed ctl 0001f001 head 124140b4 tail 00000000
start 02000000
I tested eve online and Deus Ex. In eve online GPU hangs several
seconds after i undock (so when actual 3d rendering is needed i guess).
I'm using following setup:
- Dell Latitude e4300 (Intel GMA 4500MHD graphic chip) with ArchLinux x86_64
- tested various kernels (from 2.6.34 to 2.6.37-rc2-git7)
- mesa 7.8.2-3, lib32-mesa 7.8.2-5
- libdrm-git, xf86-video-intel-git, libgl-git, intel-dri-git (latest git
source, also tested distro-shipped versions)
- enabled texture compression in driconf
- wine 1.37
On latest kernels i get even less output in dmesg:
> Nov 21 19:03:16 e4300 kernel: [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR*
Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung
> Nov 21 19:03:16 e4300 kernel: [drm:i915_reset] *ERROR* Failed to
reset chip.
I googled a lot, but i cant seem to find this exact error (debug
messages seem rather sparse too).
Is this known issue (maybe related to freeze on wake-up)?
I'm just a user, not familiar with linux kernel programming, so i'm of
not much help (aside from testing). Dropping by to ask if maybe anyone
has more info about this.
Thanks in advance.
Dmitry
