Did you have this problem before you booted with the patched

First things first. The new kernel will automatically detect the modes
supported by your TV. So before changing modes run "xrandr -q" to get
a list of supported modes. It should list something like 1920x1080 @ 25 Hz
or 30 Hz.
Then use xrandr to switch modes. e.g.
xrandr --output HDMI2 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 30
