The frustration is not the comment itself, but the obstacle in needing to 
build a binary to be able to test the efficacy of the patch. Might having a 
Gentoo installation facilitate such tests by non-programmers like me who 
normally use a dpkg or rpm distro and don't how to use developer tools?
