I looked through the bug report which contains the fix [1], and it seems 
that the patch was applied to the Linux 4.9 series and then reverted due 
to regression with Skylake [2][3].

Since it works on my Broadwell based system, I'll keep on using it; the 
expert opinion is that it cannot be easily backported without more 
changes [4].
