I think the discussion on the IS_GEN() definition is slightly irrelevant
here, as this lets use trivially change it.
There's some potential follow-up work to change some of the IS_GEN(n) ||
IS_GEN(n + 1) uses to IS_GEN_RANGE(n, n + 1).
Anyway, I think this is the direction to go to, as the IS_GEN<N> macros
are getting a bit tedious.
