Hi All,

I've send v1 of this a while ago. Unfortunately I did not have time
to respin this until now.

This version uses intel_encoder_current_mode() as suggested in the
discussion of v1. This allows dropping 2 of the 4 original patches and
makes the remaining patches quite small :)
