Best way to find out if we have had a fix for that is to try out drm-tip:

Recently we had many patches touching watermarks and other related areas
that usually are known for FIFO underruns.

Another good reason to try drm-tip. And if that is fixed on drm-tip and
you need to find the exact patch that fixed the issue you need to perform
a reversed bisect.
