Generally I think stuff like this is easier and faster to read with
multiple if statements and early returns, but *shrug*.

I really hope we didn't have a reason to not check
DP_DWN_STRM_PORT_PRESENT here... there's been a lot of junk branch
devices in the past. Fingers crossed.
