One thing we need to do better here: it's going to be error prone to
leave DP as is. I think we need to document that in the case of recent
platforms using ddi, the saved bits are stored in dig_port. And then
maybe rename DP to e.g. saved_reg_bits.
I think this would avoid old patches being applied changing DP and then
having its changes silently ignored. I would also be a better
description of what this variable actually is.
