[Libdlo] DisplayLink in Ubuntu 9.10?

Hi

I am trying to get an external USB monitor working as an extension to
the normal gnome desktop under Ubuntu 9.10.  I can see that the
DisplayLink USB drivers already come packaged with 9.10 as the USB
monitor displays the terminal output when I shutdown the OS.  I am
unable to get the X server and/or gnome desktop to work however. 

Has anyone successfully got this working, and if so, how?
