Thanks for the input.
I tried to add the nomodest into my grub.conf, mark the Display subsection,
but still got the same result. : (
Is it possible some kind of 64bit compatibility problem?

Thanks Kal. Also, try removing the explicit display subsection in your
xorg.conf
SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1400x1050"
EndSubSection
And let the drivers find the best mode and color depth (right now it'll
always be 16bpp on DL). Someone else earlier had the problem that
specifying Depth 24 was keeping it from working.
