I'm aware of a couple modems that are going to use PCIe, but as far as
I know they will not use MBIM. At least one 5G device will supposedly
still use USB but that's second-hand information.

As Bjorn points out, MBIM is inherently a USB specification, so unless
there is a PCIe <-> USB shim in the driver or somebody dreams up a
MBIM-over-PCIe protocol variant I don't see how this would work.

It seems you know more than most of us on this list, so unless you can
share anything additional (which would be great, if you can!) we're
going to have to wait until the modems show up in the market and figure
out how they work.
