I am interest in testing the firmware download support feature on my product equipped with Sierra MC73xx. Is the code available in git repos yet, Bjon ?

This is only tested on a Sierra Wireless EM7455 so far. I expect it to need
some modifications for older modems or for modems from other vendors. When
it comes to the latter, I really don't know how to download the firmware
images anyway...

The main difference between the new --dms-set-firmware-pref request and the
existing -dms-select-stored-image, is that the new request allows you to
select *any* MODEM and PRI combination, regardless of which images are
present on the modem. This is a necessary prerequisite for installing
new firmware versions.

Selecting a non-existing MODEM + PRI combination will make the modem
automatically wait in QDL mode on the next reset, allowing the missing
image(s) to be downloaded. The second patch prints the list of images
the modem needs.
