Hey,

It is like you said, serial ports working, but qmi is not working.
qmi_wwan: probe of 2-1.3:1.0 failed with error -22

I added

{QMI_GOBI_DEVICE(0x1e0e, 0x9001)},

to qmi_wwan.c but it seems there is more todo.

Any idea what to do else?

raw-ip is required on the SIM7600. I just posted on the list regarding the SIM7600, it is not included in the current kernel, however since it is using the same USB id as SIM7230E the serial port will work right out, but not the QMI without some tweaks.

I doubt there are any recent mPCIe modems that are using MDM9215 anymore. The SIM7600 uses MDM9207 which is good replacement for MC7304 in terms of features.
