No, ModemManager doesn't do any connectivity check. It just monitors the
connection status as reported by the modem.

In NetworkManager you can configure HTTP based connectivity checks, e.g.
used for automatic routing if multiple connections are up.
Think of a laptop with WiFi+WWAN connections but the WiFi is for a private
LAN only; in that case default routing would go through WWAN.
