Glad people are talking about continuity (and sorry to not be there to catch the org discussions in person).

I have a few lessons learned from 2015 to kick things off. It wasn't the biggest LGM, but it was, mostly, pretty tidy organizationally.

Things that worked well in 2015:
-having a set timeline for deliverables, and making other relevant groups aware of it (for example: letting the content team in on plans early in the process, which allowed them to kick the local org team if something wasn't going to schedule)
-having a member of the local org team be an employee of the hosting institution (we were at a university), which was useful for things like getting money, getting buy-in from decision-makers, and getting convenient access to resources without having to pay the same fees as outside groups (institutions vary, but this worked well at the University of Toronto, and significantly cut down on costs)
-having set, bi-weekly meetings in IRC, which anyone interested in helping could attend, and which acted as check-in times for people who had tasks to complete, or questions to ask
-having face-to-face meetings with organizers of other years (I had a meeting with Femke while trying to make early plans and figure out timelines. Similarly, Lara and I had a meeting later on to talk about her 2016 plans.)

Things I wish had gone better in 2015:
-comparatively small turn-out (against, say, Madrid or Brussels)
-not a lot of local attendees (should've tried to forge stronger ties with relevant local organizations)
-wish the local team had been bigger (two people, plus one local addition to the content team, who helped organize the party)
-didn't do a good enough job of engaging potential volunteers (leading to ad hoc volunteering during the event when things suddenly needed doing)
-should've gotten people to pre-order t-shirt sizes while registering (because t-shirts were one of the bigger costs in a year that had a free venue)

-g
