[LGM] SPI Partnership

Hello, everybody.
As you may recall, we voted in 2017 tentatively to pursue a partnership
with Software in the Public Interest to handle global funds for LGM. This
effort fell by the wayside a few times, but SPI has finally put together a
set of comprehensive documents detailing the partnership process and the
rules concerning the collection and disbursement of funds. Start here
<http://spi-inc.org/projects/associated-project-howto/>.
One important point is that there are certain sources of revenue and
certain disbursements that SPI probably cannot make. On the other hand, SPI
does not require any exclusivity in its relationship and only charges fees
(5%) on the funds that it handles. I think that the way forward here is to
establish the relationship and then to use it in the cases where it makes
sense (raising money from companies that want United States tax deductions
and spending on conference expenses), with alternate arrangements for other
receipts and disbursements.
There is apparently an in-person board meeting this Friday. Unless there
are strong objections, I think that it is imperative that we submit an
application by then so that this doesn't slip another year. I will have a
draft ready for discussion Wednesday's meeting.
Best wishes,
Frank
