At first I thought, good idea, but now I am not sure. Read on:

There is already code in a (LibreOffice-specific, as far as I know, not in
OpenOffice.org) custom action to automatically deselect UI languages not likely
not be useful. The same heuristic could presumably be used also to deselect
dictionaries not likely to be useful.

But, it is quite likely that such automatic cleverness will cause unpleasant
surprises for many users; I can well imagine that people prefer to have the
LibreOffice UI in the same language as their Windows installation is, but still
want to write documents in other languages, too. There will be lots of
complaints like "OpenOffice.org comes with a Spanish dictionary, why doesn't
LibreOffice" and we will have to explain over and over again that they need to
(re-)run a custom installation and select the Spanish dictionary. So maybe we
need an explicit extra step in the installation wizard to ask for which
dictionaries to install.

So, is the disk space saved by leaving some dictionaries uninstalled
significant that it is worth it to have this kind of automation that will often
misfire?
