With 3.5 branch on pc Debian x86-64, I didn't succeeded in reproducing this
problem.
Perhaps it's the fact to have several jre, the BG localization, other ?

Could you install libreoffice-dbg to see if there are any warning/error
messages in console ?
The best thing to do would be to have a backtrace of the problem, you can take
a look here to see how :
