Bug #: 53340
Summary: FORMATTING: Master Slide Text Area Size Was Changed
3.4 -> 3.5; Can't Be Changed Back
Classification: Unclassified
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 3.6.0.4 release
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: medium
Component: Presentation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: sean.carlos at gmail.com
The default height of the master slide text area (where it says "click here to
edit text" was changed from version 3.4 to 3.5 (not sure why).
In a clean installation of 3.4.6 the Impress text area dimensions are
9.92" wide x 5.46" high (25.20cm x 13.86cm)
In 3.6.0.4 (but I'm almost 100% certain the problem began with the 3.5 series)
the default text area is:
9.70" x 4.79" (24.74cm x 12.18cm)
There are several problems with this change:
- The internal height (4.79" / 12.18cm) OVERRIDES existing user templates which
will of course impact existing user slide sets should a user try to insert a
new slide (text area is wrong).
- If a user tries to modify the text area dimensions of a master slide,
selecting the "Protect Position & Size" option, saves, all is well - until the
user exits Impress. The next session will reset the height (but strangely not
width it seems) of a master slide text area in a user's template. [This
behavior also exists in 3.4.x but was never a problem as I didn't try to change
the text box dimensions]
This change poses major compatibility issues with slide sets created in
versions prior to 3.5 should a user need to insert new slides.
Suggested solution: allow user defined slide master text area to persist from
one session to another
