Summary: Entering date in cell with date format could default
year to current

OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED

Hi all.
This is an enhancement request to make date entering simpler for the user.
If a cell is defined for a date format of the style dd-mmm-yyyy and a person
enters 1-jan I would expect it to automatically append the current year. This
is the way it works in MS Excel.
If a person enters jan-2012 it would default the day to the current day, or
default to 1 as it does in Excel.
If a person enters data that can not easily be defaulted it could be left as
text the way it currently works in LO.
If the cell was formatted as a date field with a layout of yyyy-mmm-dd and a
user entered jan-1 it would still be able to assume the current year and add it
to the beginning.
If the date format is dd-mm-yyyy (where the use of mm means it will be a number
rather than text).
If a user entered 26-1 this could also be interpreted to be a day and month and
the year could automatically be added.
Entry shortcuts like these when done in a understandable manner can be very
useful and time saving when entering many dates.
This may seem trivial but I find it an irritant every time I need to enter a
date.
Thanks for considering this request.
