I also had this behavior on LibreOffice 3.5.3 (installed using the LibreOffice
.deb files) on Linuxmint 12 x86_64.  Using the version of LibreOffice provided
by Linuxmint, 3.4.4, I can open the saved .pptx file without crashing, but any
tables in the presentation vanish.
