Bug #: 50279
Summary: install-instructions for Linux outdated and misleading
Classification: Unclassified
Product: LibreOffice
Version: LibO 3.5.3 release
Platform: x86-64 (AMD64)
OS/Version: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: medium
Component: Documentation
AssignedTo: libreoffice-bugs at lists.freedesktop.org
ReportedBy: ecc at riseup.net
The install-instructions for Linux-users on the website are outdated and
misleading. They still regard version 3.3 and not 3.5. For inexperienced users
it causes installation failures because the version-numbers in the
command-instructions doesn't fit the new 3.5 version.
Additionally for Fedora/Redhat: the rmp-file (at least
LibO_3.5.3_Linux_x86-64_install-rpm_en-US.tar.gz) doesn't contain a
desktop-integration package for RedHat as stated in the install-instructions.
On Fedora 16 this makes the program "invisible" to the normal user. It works
with the freedesktop desktop-integration package
(libreoffice3.5-freedesktop-menus-3.5.3-2.noarch.rpm), but for inexperienced
users the whole process is pretty misleading and will probably cause
installation failure.
