1) I rather let Ubuntu manage the versions and so keep me up to date. I'm
using:
Version: 5.3.1.2
Build ID: 1:5.3.1-0ubuntu2

2) I did this and the ctrl+shift_arrow (selecting whole words) works now. Copy
paste (ctrl+c/v) still doesn't.
