--- Comment #19 from Telesto <telesto at surfxs.nl> ---
I'm following the Media Playback issues a bit. It's probably a bit off topic
and asked before, but anyway... I'm wondering, why is LibreOffice using the
native (system) media-player/codecs anyway? Why not embed a cross platform
directly media-player into LibreOffice (for example VideoLAN; MPV). Or - a bit
less drastic - make it possible to use a specific backend if available: for
example the VideoLAN (it can be pushed as a separate install).

Some reasons:
*The audio/video format support is now inconsistent; system depended. Creating
a working presentation on Linux doesn't guarantee a working presentation on
Windows. Or even with the same system environment
*The out-of-box experience for the end user is bad. You need to install
separate codecs (especially on Windows). And codec pack which can change the
default filters at any time. Multiple media players are bundling there own
codecs (VideLAN; Potplayer); there must be a reason for that
* Maintaining different backends on different system environments
(win/mac/linux) with different quirks look like a lot of work (and harder to
test).
*LibreOffice should work on the 'core'. Media playback issues should be
addressed by a team (more) devoted to that.
*Installing a codec-pack in business like environment will always be
problematic (and the default configuration doesn't guarantee a working
playback)

Only a though; there are probably good reason for the current situation.
