In the download page https://www.libreoffice.org/download there is a link in
the sidebar to http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/install-howto/

..through which a Linux user will find

I asked on the developer chat and they do not consider the sudo pwd prompt to
be a good idea. Linux updates normally happen through the package manager
anyway.
