Dear LibreOffice / Document Foundation,
I was originally told by Alex Thurgood, that my problem most likely wouldn't be
confirmed because he didn't have a 2008 Mac Pro running Yosemite. While I
understand that, ii kinda makes all the time I spent reporting this seem like a
waste. For future reference, it would be helpful to know what models and
software versions you DO test on.
Second, after extensive testing, I MAY have figured out WHAT is causing the
issue I continue to have. Please read on.
MY DOCUMENTS FOLDER
I have a fairly large DOCUMENTS folder. TEXTEDIT has no problem saving to it,
but LibreOffice cannot handle simply trying to open the DOCUMENTS folder when
choosing where to SAVE my document. This means that I had to go in to
PREFERENCES and change the SAVE PATH so it will not automatically try to open a
dialog window in the DOCUMENTS folder whenever I try to save a document. I do
not have this problem with LibreOffice on my Mac Mini (2010) running Yosemite,
but my DOCUMENTS folder on the Mac Mini is small. Just to be clear, LibreOffice
seems to be fine with every other folder I tried to save to. It will even save
to my other hard drives, but not the folder where documents are stored. Funny,
and yet not so funny. :)
ARRANGEMENT OF HARD DRIVES (most likely a non-issue)
I don't think this has anything to do with the problem, but wanted to be clear
that my Mac Pro is setup with an SSD drive for the system files and a 4TB
standard hard drive that contains my Mac Pro's HOME folder (Desktop, Documents,
Pictures, etc.)
LIBREOFFICE INSTALL VERIFICATION TAKES 15-30 MINUTES
Yes, you heard right — an insane amount of time! I'm pretty sure it did this on
both my Macs. This is when you first click on the file to launch LibreOffice
after downloading, mounting the DMG and dragging the app into APPLICATIONS.
This issue really needs addressing. Thankfully I let it keep "verifying" to see
what would happen after force quitting it several times, but 15-30 minutes is a
bit long.
I don't have any more time to write more, unless it's to help actually test
something. My wife and I LOVE LibreOffice and hope you will at least pass these
issues along to be at least looked at. Both my computers far exceed the system
requirements on the website, so if at all possible, my problem should be
addressed. If you have a fix of some kind to share with me, I would be
grateful.
Thanks to all of you for your hard work and excellent FREE software,
Roy McCollum
