2.drag an edge control point to try to make, say, wider/thinner or
shorter/taller (but not both)
3.Observe both horizontal and vertical scaling change.
no repro with LO 5.3.3 and Version: 5.5.0.0.alpha0+

4. Note holding down shift key does allow independent scaling, contrary to
documentation.
reproducible, but I doesn't see a bug here. In documentation > Shift+drag while
creating or resizing an object  = Constrains the size to keep the object's
aspect ratio.
