Yes, I can confirm this is still a problem.

In some of the other reports, there were mentions of the MM wizard saving
configuration/states in the user profile. I have tried deleting/emptying the
profile folder in Windows but this did not help. I also tried Safe Mode with
different options, but this did not help either.

Any more suggestions on how to reset the LO and/or Mail Merge configuration in
any other wat?
