I think the below additionnal settings would help.

"don't resize if original size is greater than" : with 200% of resizing dpi for
example (with value expressed in percent). This would avoid to make the image
interpolation ugly if the orginial resolution isn't enough for the reduced
resolution.

For lossless compression : an optionnal "use indexed colours" checkbox. This
could highly reduce the file size without any human perception difference with
many "artificial" images.

For any image manipulation, I think the lossless or lossy image type should be
preserved. In most cases, if you convert a jpeg image into a png image, you
will inflate the image file size. In a many cases the image file size will
inflate if you convert a png image into a jpeg with a suitable quality,
especially if the lossless image uses "artificial" colours (screenshot, ...),
even more if they are indexed.
