Aw jeez, I read the steps carelessly again.. Now I tried again exactly like you
wrote: hover mouse over the top of the first column until arrow appears, then
click'n'drag to the right to select them all. This causes the flicker unlike
any other "click without drag" selection.

You are right that it's pretty trivial and I guess it's somewhat rare to do the
selection like that.
