Well, I know I want it on the version I want to share, but not on my master or
working document.

Again, maybe I'm not being clear. What is the advantage to compressing and
resizing at insert time, rather they save time?
I have no issue with setting sane defaults for compressing and
resizing(especially if they can be turned off). For example, let’s say my
system is set to 96 dpi. I create a new document without thinking about this.
Insert time change, will not be recoverable. I will have to start from scratch.
However, if this is handled at save time, I can change the document settings
and no data will be lost as long a I remember before saving.
