In FontCreator the Typo Descent and HHead Descent need to be set negative.

Maybe, but you'd constantly have to tweak things in all you legacy
documents--better to correct the font metrics for those, and use an alternate
font with correct metrics (or a modified copy of these) going forward for new
documents.
