This issue is still reproducible in

Version: 6.0.0.0.alpha0+
Build ID: 616f21db9e50a77b0c02dfb123f871a742f46216
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 4.10; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3; 
Locale: ca-ES (ca_ES.UTF-8); Calc: group

I found something interesting... In GTK3, the background was displayed up to
bea1dc5f8d17c1011cdfab1ff540f3e4b3a4d1bb, and now it's displayed without
background, as in the rest of VCL backends.

Caolán, does bea1dc5f8d17c1011cdfab1ff540f3e4b3a4d1bb give you any hint why the
background is not displayed now ?
