--- Comment #1 from Regina Henschel <rb.henschel at t-online.de> ---
If you want to have alternating lists like
  list A
  list A
  list B
  list A
  list B
  list B
  list A
that is possible with the named lists, which you get, when using a numbering
style.

If you want one list with different kind of numbering for different levels like
 1) klö
 2) jkl
    * köj
    * wer
    * iip
 3) sfg
 4) jad
then the way you try it is wrong. Using the "Bullet list" item generates a new
list and is therefore wrong.
If you are inside the list, you get a list toolbar above the status bar (if not
open the "Bullet and Numbering" toolbar via menu View > Toolbars). This toolbar
has arrow icons to change the level of a list item. And its rightmost icon
opens the dialog to change the kind of numbering.

There exists further ways to handle such changes by selecting the list items
and using tab key. That is described in the build-in help.

This is clearly an user error. You can use forum or mailing list to get
assistance in using LibreOffice.

Nevertheless, handling of lists is a difficult topic. Therefore I set this as
enhancement request for documentation, to get more uses case focused
descriptions and "repair" suggestions.
