in parallel testing I gave it a try with LO 5.4. within a virtualbox:
XP Sp3/32 with full install of Java 7-80: worked

open that odb-file on the Host failed and crashed LO immidiatly.
So - for the recap:
  Win10/64 H (build 1703)
  LO 5.4. portable - running as LO 32-bit
  Jportable 1.8-131 
no further tools/data-drivers running, FB is not installed separatly

starting other java-related functions within LO (calc/function-wizzard) works.
What I have is the last log-file from starting java in last session, before LO
crashed (see attached (JavaDeployReg.log)
